The 'Classrooms' section is currently being worked on for 2026
Welcome to Room 8!
We are a wonderful Year 2 class who love learning about God and discovering who we are as His unique children. We are enjoying getting to know one another and are working together to create an environment where discovery is exciting.
Our classroom is a bright, open place designed for creativity and growth. My prayer is that your child knows they are deeply valued and loved in this special community.
✝ Bible:
This year, our Bible Programme traces the story of Jesus from Creation to Resurrection. Guided by The Jesus Storybook Bible, we invite children to discover how the entire narrative of Scripture points to our need for a Savior. Additionally, our devotional time focuses on spiritual growth, teaching children important character qualities God calls us to demonstrate, such as joy, endurance, integrity, assurance of salvation.
📚Reading:
For reading this year students are learning the foundational skills for becoming a great reader. Our reading follows the Better Start Literacy Approach programme which our teachers are trained in. This focuses on letter sounds, word manipulation and spelling patterns. We also encourage reading for enjoyment through weekly library visits and class read alouds each day. Below are links to some websites to support your child.
✍️Writing:
At school we use the Writing Toolbox programme. In writing we encourage students to expand their sentences with 'who, what, where, when, why' information and by including interesting vocabulary.
Some ways to encourage writing at home are through:
writing shopping lists.
keeping a daily journal.
writing letters or postcards to friends.
designing posters or cards.
🔢Math:
We are continuing working through our Prime math books. This includes learning about number bonds, addition and subtraction, and simple mathematical procedures.
We are also learning to add our basic facts quickly.
Below are some helpful links to support your child in this at home.
📑Homework:
Students read at home each day. This can be a picture book, library story, or chapter books.
Students write out and practise the memory verse at home to support them in hiding God's word in their heart. Our hope is that these verses stay in their hearts for years to come.
Students complete their basic facts sheets at home along with some suggestions to align with what they are learning in school (e.g. numbers before and after, addition/subtraction problems, and adding doubles).
Spelling words are to be practised daily as these align with the BSLA reading programme and are the focus of the phonics lessons each week.
Each Friday students are tested on the content covered in their homework that week.
