The key principles of the Treat of Waitangi are partnership, protection and participation.
At Southcity Christian School we give effect to the Treaty of Waitangi through partnership with our mana whenua and our Māori families and their tamariki. We have regular hui to get feedback and direction for the learning of their students. We have created a whānau support group for our Māori families.
We have implemented a Te Ao Māori programme across our school and have created a kupu challenge We are investigating and in the early stages of creating a kapa haka group. We want to see our tamariki participating in the learning of both language and tikanga.
We protect the Treaty of Waitangi through our students learning about it and that it is a foundation document within New Zealand. This is part of our planning each year. We incorporate throughout the year other significant calendar events and perspectives of our manawhenua.
